While calling around checking on summer my square and compass brothers. I thought I might post here and see how many of you would respond to just give us an idea of how you're doing through this issue. Here in Indiana we are on a shelter at home.  Londean and I are both fortunate enough to have employment and allows us to work from home. and are doing very well together. She is a patient woman. I'll be waiting to hear from You.

Hello,

The date of this communication is March 22, 2020.  Due to the unknowns involved with the COVID 19 issue and the length of time that it may take to work through the situation.  There are no current plans to reschedule the Sgt. Alvin C York Memorial shoot for this year. If you had registered for the contest for 2020, you would be automatically registered, and your fee transferred to the 2021 competition.  As noted before, the Sgt. Alvin C York Memorial shoot was canceled due to an order by the state of Tennessee not to have gatherings of more than 10 or more people.  This is not a situation that is not to be taken lightly, nor were the decisions by the state of Tennessee made without due diligence in their thought process.  Should the situation change.  Please keep visiting this website regularly to receive new information as it becomes available.

Fellow muzzle loading enthusiast for those of you who have shot at A.W. Coon farm. You may have from time to time run into a gentleman named Richard Henderson. Richard is a fine gentleman who due to age was no longer able to shoot a chunk gun. And was most delighted when the table shoots start. Richard himself being well past 70 could not come to many shoots until recently due to taking care of an aging mother. I have just received word from Julia Coon that Richard is in the hospital with a very serious ailment, and that hospice has been notified. I would like to reach out to each of you and ask you to keep Richard in your thoughts and prayers, as it looks like his time among us may be short. I will repost with any further updates as they come in.

I think I've got an idea to facilitate your wishes. We will have the fire department, wet down just the area that you will use for your lay down. Then we will have an air conditioner to blow up your pants leg so you can freeze well you know. While the fire department's there, we can have them water hose on your lay down area while you're shooting so you can feel the rain. And just in case you'd like a little thunderstorm maybe we could give the guy beside you a stun gun so you can feel the lightning every now and again. Please give me funny you notice it may take awhile to set that up for you.

Actually we've already placed the order for the weather. 0.75 mile an hour headwind, clear skies, with an average temperature of 73.4 degrees. However, we have found the weather to be more like a bad restaurant. Order what you want and take what you get.

This question came up early in the table game. And I think I have heard it asked in the chunk circles. I don't know that I have heard anyone object to it. All the rules on recoil pad seem to refer to attachment to the rifle. And just my personal opinion. The fact that none of us are getting any younger might lead us in that direction. Another thought I do see people shooting with these shooting or Safari shirts on, which have a light recoil area on one or both shoulders. I don't see the difference. Just to stir the kettle a little bit why don't you get you a couple of shirts that fit nicely you would like to shoot in and sew some recoil padding on the inside of the shoulder area that would save the strap on shoulder pad from slipping around. Just an idea do with it what you like.

When the table shoot was first started 30 yards was not necessarily for the Aging eyes, that was the value of the peep sight. It was for the Aging bodies that were simply wore out walking 10 60-yard matches. I don't think an expansion of the game would be detrimental. However, I would not look for some of your more elderly shooters to necessarily participate. And I just can't be sure about this. But some of them might give up altogether thinking the game was taking a turn they didn't like. Just my thoughts.

Good evening everyone
I am the match director for the Sergeant Alvin C York Memorial shoot. This particular subject was brought up to me, at the shoot this year. I have done some research and tapped my memory. I have also spoken with the event director on this subject. I have also spoken with a number of shooters. After due consideration and a lengthy discussion the event director, He and myself have decided, that the fourth Saturday in March has served us well for 26 years now. And that for reasons stated above. For example many people over many years have scheduled several events around this particular shoot. And as one particular shooter mention to me it doesn't matter if you have it on the 4th of July you can still get rain. We do not believe that it would be conducive to attendance to move the shoot. I therefore we'll make the announcement first here on this board. The 2019 Sergeant Alvin C York Memorial shoot will be held Saturday March 23rd 2019. And for the foreseeable future will be continued on the 4th Saturday in March. With the exception of those years when Easter would fall on that weekend.
