Eye much much better!! (long)

Thanks guys for the prayers concerning the failed cataract surgery I had in April.
After 6 months of waiting for things to get better, I sought a second opinion. This doctor
looked at everything and turned me over to a retina specialist in St. Louis.
My visit with him was very encouraging. We decided to do surgery and remove all the floaters,
dried blood, double vision and other debris that was in there. That happened on the 11th of October.
I have had 90% of my eye sight back!  I still have a little blurriness and a very very light blue haze
hanging around but he said that should also improve. I can now read without glasses.
Maybe, just maybe I will see good enough to start shooting again come spring!

I check this forum every night and things have been awful slow as of late. I know the
weather is changing for the worse, in my opinion and we've already had a tracking snow
the day before Halloween. I don't look forward to winter.
Deer season is upon us now and everyone in the family is gearing up for the hunt.
Even my 96yr. old father-in-law is getting his rifle sighted in! We lost his companion of 73yrs. in April and there's been quite an adjustment for him.

Well practice when you can and maybe me and a couple of other fellers can venture east and get some lessons on table shooting next summer. I certainly hope so.

Thanks for letting me ramble.
Big John in the Kingdom of Callaway!

Re: Eye much much better!! (long)

Good to hear that you have made some improvement! I do think that Winter is starting early this year real early! Not a good sign! Maybe we'll have an early Winter and then an early Spring I'm hoping!

Re: Eye much much better!! (long)

Big John,

So very glad to hear that the eyesight is improving. I can only guess what a struggle it has been and I sure hope things continue to improve.

The table shoot season is over here in the east. Last shoot was November 9th. I had a busy year, I think I made 19 table shoots this year and may get to shoot a little more in 2020 as a couple of the places we shoot are going to add a few more shoots. I got lucky and shot really good up at Fiendship in September at the Fall Nationals and won the Table Shoot Aggregate.

Got to cast up some balls and get ready for 2020, be a good job to do on these, cold days we have been having lately.

Deer hunting is in full swing here in Kentucky, stated November 9 and goes to the 24th here in my part of the state. Have already harvested 7 does and 1 -10pt buck(flintlock on him).I didn't do it all, had 2 friends from down in eastern KY come up and help me.
I shot 4 of the does with a modern rifle. One of the guys that came up will process all of them as that is all that his family eats.

Hope some of you guys can make it east next year, we would sure enjoy shooting with y'all.

Take care, winter well.

Carl

>>>improvement<<<
Thanks Carl. Things are much better! I got back about 90% of the eye sight. It's still a little blurry but slowly clearing up. I have a appointment with the surgeon tomorrow to see how things are progressing.

>>>19 shoots in a year<<<
I used to shoot 21 off-hand shoots from April thru October and I can tell you that you don't have many weekends to do anything else. If you add a couple then your weekends will be busy also.
Congratulations on your Friendship shooting! That's something to be proud of!

>>>deer hunting<<<
Our deer hunting started the 16 and runs thru the 26th. I can't hunt anymore (hope to change this next year!) but my 96 year old father went with his youngest son and ended up with a big doe! He gave it to me and my family. Everyone is really proud of him. He went again this afternoon trying to fill his buck tag but I haven't heard from them.
You have quite a pile of deer meat there and I can see none will go to waste. We eat a lot also.
I'm sure you're most proud of the flintlock buck. Post a picture if you have one, I'd like to see it!

If I get back to shooting and I hope I can, I'll try and talk Richard and David in attending one of the shoots back there. We need all the lessons we can get!

I hope you saw the post about the Old Farm Shooters being shut down. They have shot on this farm for 53 years and all of a sudden had to shut down. I haven't heard any of the particulars yet but from what I gather from some post there's a guy that moved in close and is complaining about something. Noise I would suspect. Hopefully they'll get things straightened out and return to shooting every Sunday afternoon.

>>>Take care, winter well.<<<
Thanks and the same to you! You saw that I've wintered to well in the past so don't think anything will change! You and your family have a great Thanksgiving!

Big John

It’s great to hear your eyesight is coming back, John! You were smart to seek another opinion. Doctors are like car mechanics. Good ones are hard to find.

You are so correct! I met with my surgeon yesterday and he doesn't need to see me until February.
The eye has cleared up quite a bit. The haze is gone and now nothing but a blurring of bright lights. During the day things are just a bit fuzzy but he is sending me back to my cataract doctor, not the same one that did the original screwup, but the one that recommended this surgeon.
He says there is a slight tear where they put the lens in and this new doctor should be able to repair it and give me an "eagle eye" ( his words!) Then on to the left eye for removal of the cataract there.

Batten down the hatches! It looks like you will receive a little more severe weather than I'm getting here.
Don't you just love 65º one day and 38º the next? Things are crazy!!

Re: Eye much much better!! (long)

Well last Tuesday I had surgery on the left eye.
My right eye has recovered from the surgery of vacuuming out the dried blood that had flooded it. It is now 20/25 with just a slight glare in real bright lights.
The left eye is doing very well and is just a little blurry but he said that will clear up in a day or two as the swelling goes down from the surgery.
Right now it is looking very well! Thank God!!

One more cold spell and spring is gonna break loose, at least that's my wish!!
