    Building a new percussion table rifle.

    Hi all.

    Started building a percussion table rifle. 48" DeHaas barrel. .40 caliber, 1-48 twist. L&R mule ear lock. walnut half stock.

    Got to the rough finished stage and took it to the range today to see if it worked, and check the stock fit. I shot about a dozen shots with poor results, then changed to 70 grains 2f and teflon patching with a .400 ball. Next 10 shots were in a quarter sized group, 30 yards. looks like a shooter!

    That's lookin' good there Okawbow!

    Tune that in and come shoot with us the first part of October. We haven't set a final date but looking real strong it will be Wednesday Oct. 3rd & 4th. Just need final approval from the club. Gonna shoot 2 days if you guys come a long distance to shoot. Details later.

    Are you going to retire the rifle you used at Indiana state shoot or just use it when the wind is bad?

    I already had the parts, so I thought a .40 cal. Percussion would be a good compliment to the .54 flintlock.

    I can also load the .40 much hotter than the .54 without all the recoil. Like you mentioned, the .54 will be best in the wind.

    I’ll also be using the longer barreled .40 as a lighter chunk gun.

    I’ll post some pictures of the rifle when it looks a little more finished. Right now, it looks like a barrel with a 2x4 bolted on.

    What kind of rear sight is that? I use Lymans and they mount to the left side as do Redfields and others of similar design.

    I don’t know who made the sight. I bought it used off a table. I made the front sight. It has a pin head post.
