Shooting wise or weather

The clubhouse » Big John - Missouri » 6/12/2019 10:51 PM

John sorry to hear about the eye problems. Makes my floater in the center of my right eye seem like a non problem. God be willing that your eye be healed

The clubhouse » NMLRA - 2019 - New Fee Schedule » 4/28/2019 10:39 PM

I understand the concern, I only shoot Quail walk there and dont shoot nearly what I did. 60 + dollars for a couple of rounds is a bit rich.
Makes staying at the state park and day triping to visit friends look good.

Over the log » Log rest? » 4/04/2019 11:37 PM

When I have my shoots I pull a 25 to 30 foot log out in the field, just find a spot that the higith suits you. Its as stable a rest as you can get

Over the log » The York » 3/24/2019 11:40 PM

I dont have any of the results, I went down to run the range. A good bunch of shooters, several new ones and almost no problems. Weather was better than you could ask for in March. Met several old friends. The York family expressed appreation to those who worked to put the shoot on and to the shooters.

Starting to look at weather and routes to AZ. Might be a good year to visit friends in LA then take I-10 out instead of the I-64 I-44, I-40 route

The clubhouse » Roller coaster .... » 2/17/2019 1:38 AM

Turned out the weather grue was off again, a sprinkle of sleet, no ice or snow here.

The clubhouse » AAAH OHIO » 2/08/2019 10:54 PM

And the Ohio river is coming back out here. The water had just fell enough to get back in the banks now is coming back up.
And the weather, Wendsday and thursday it was close to sixty and a monsoon, sunny and cold today with a low in the low teens. Just another week in southern Indiana

The clubhouse » Here we go ..... plunging down! » 1/29/2019 11:16 PM

Yep its cold here south of I 64 and they say Im in the south. You arent going to be loading a spit patch it will freeze in the barrel

Black Powder Shooting » Patch Lube » 1/05/2019 11:44 PM

It was designed during WW11 to be a direct replacement for whale oil. Apperently before the war whale oil had been the oil of choice for auto transmissions

Black Powder Shooting » Patch Lube » 1/05/2019 9:25 AM

Do any of you use automatic transmission fluid? I have used it for years in my military rifles for cast bullet shooting. A very light coat on paper patches seems to help with the groups

Looking forward to it Robin, are you planning on scheduling less rain?

I was sitting in the Leigon hall in Oberlen Kansas when I realised what the date was. The day my dad ask my mother to marry him. Married on Feb 14 1942, a week later Dad left for 44 months.

PM me your email and I will forward you a copy of the flyer.
In a fairly short period of time they have put together what sounds like a really good program. All seem to be good people from my experience working with them.

Shoot dates » Owl Creek Table Match » 10/03/2018 10:28 PM

Would like to be there but a promise to a grandson. Will be fishing in the Waynesville area just off I-44

The clubhouse » Friendship-Accidental Rifle Discharge-Bench Line » 9/21/2018 9:10 PM

Thanks. I have talked to two shooters who were in the area, but not witnesses. Very close but not exact. I am planning on calling the shooter this weekend.

Table shoots » Thoughts on a 50 yard table match » 8/06/2018 9:55 PM

I for one dont think its an issue. I will admit that I am not one of the regular table shooters but I for one [if I get a chance to shoot a match] You tell me what I am shooting at, what range, and the rules i will try my darnness to hit it.

Introductions » Hello from SE Kansas » 8/06/2018 9:49 PM

and hello from SW Indiana. I get to Kansas on the I-70 route at least once a year. My shooting is in the NW corner of the state involving # 4 and #6 shot. Some pushed by modern powder, some is black powder sparked by flint. Looking forward to November.

The clubhouse » The Fourth » 7/03/2018 7:52 PM

I have one who will be celebrating in uniform.
I have been thinking the 4th will be the day to get the Brown Bess out and send some large chunks of lead into the berm

Table shoots » 40 Cal. Group Size » 6/28/2018 12:16 PM

I glued a rail on my barrel when I was working up loads. I do nor remember the group size but off sand bags and as long as I kept loading pressure close, it would shoot close to a one hole group at 50 yards.

Black Powder Shooting » Placement of touch hole and nipple. » 6/23/2018 10:04 PM

I agree, not the same but the last trade gun I built I placed the touch hole liner so the back of the liner is in front of the breach plug about 1/16. This made this gun the most reliable ignition of any I built. My concern though is shooting all day with out cleaning, more than 100 shots in a day. Many years ago we placed shotgun touch holes at the front of the powder column. This really increased recoil, good ignition but kicked like a mule.

The clubhouse » New shoot Phoenix AZ » 6/21/2018 7:37 PM

Almost as soon as I arrived at Friendship I was told the Western National shoot in Phoenix had been cancled by the BOD. This was very dissapointing to me, after an Indiana winter spending a week in the desert was great. The range at Ben Avery is well above top notch and well matained. The crew that has been putting on the NMLRA Western National shoot are very dedicated and the shooters have been very generous in their support.
This morning I recieved a call that I needed to keep the dates open, the group has started the AZWINS [Arizona Western Invitational Shoot. I am looking for more info

The clubhouse » Friendship » 6/20/2018 5:08 PM

I went up with one of my grandsons, up Thursday afternoon, back Saturday morning. The first time since 1967 I have not signed up to shoot, 51 years. It was bittersweet, to many friends not there for several reasons. I camped on Primative since my camp site was eliminated last June. I did see several friends and bought some supplies.

I was just there last week, I went in Olean road. The road signs were up on 62 and said the road was closed

Over the log » Tork Shoot 2019 » 4/15/2018 9:54 PM

I know that with my eyes and the fact that I am not a rifle shooter It does not matter when or on what part of the line I shoot. I enjoy being able to be a part of the event.  Those that can shoot and understand reading the wind and light had best be paying attention to the forcast as to shooting first or second.

Over the log » Tork Shoot 2019 » 4/12/2018 10:11 PM

Yep the rain sucked this year, but last year was nice. April Im less likely to be able to make it due to the growing season being started

Over the log » The York » 4/03/2018 8:32 PM

Thanks for the compliments Trent. What I learned was that my capote works better i n the rain than I thought and I need to look into one of those orange stetsons I saw at Cabalas to keep theb rain off my glasses. This was my second year and was as good a group as I have ever range officered for

Shoot. Results » Sergeant Alvin C York Memorial shoot results soon to be posted » 3/26/2018 10:46 PM

I had fun, got soaked and due to range officering did not have to lay down in the mud. It was a good adventure.
